I have dated many Millennials in the past ten years and I always knew that I would end up with a Gen X-er or a Xennial. Spoiler Alert: I did. I love the Millennial generation and I think of myself as a quint-essential Millennial, however, I always needed something to balance that out. Our 17 year age difference does wonders for our relationship.
- I want to make a difference, he is comfortable falling in line at work until he retires (so at least one of us can pay the bills).
- He hates tattoos and man buns, I like the individuality.
- I want to travel he wants the homestead (ok, this one is a little bit of a problem for us)
Truth be told, when we do fight, many times it is because of generational differences, but we understand that we can’t be the same because that would be too much of a good thing. I appreciate our difference and love the fact that we have different perspectives on things. We are currently, as I type this, having an argument about having one kid because I don’t want to miss work to be home with a kid.
I got lucky that I have found a man who is an Atheist, Liberal and Gen X-er. It may drive me nuts that all conversations have to halt when he is doing something because he can’t multitask, and that there is no spontaneity (that might be him and not a generational thing), but at the end of the day, this Millennial found her Gen X-er and she is so happy about it!
