It was brought to my attention by a reader that a common critique of Millennials is that they lack grit. Obviously this falls inline with us being entitled, lazy and selfish. However do we truly lack grit? I took Angela Duckworth’s Grit Scale test and scored a 4.8 out of 5. In other words, I’m almost the grittiest.
Now obviously not all Millennials are going to have grit, but there are a few things I think should be considered in this argument. More Millennials have obtained a college degree than any previous generation according to an NPR article. Now, some say that more Millennials seek counseling during their college year making them “needy”. I guess being able to accept help during a very stressful time in our lives makes us needy.
I feel that this lack of grit claim is baseless, as most of the Millennial claims are. We are obviously hard working, gritty and educated, however the world does not seem to want to recognize this. Generation Z is possibly going to be the largest generation once the last of them graduate from high school, hopefully we, the Millennials will lead them into a less hateful world by disproving the hate that has been spewed towards us.
